Voltra x Comms8 - Do Good with Marketing

On the 10th of June, we held a sharing talk with VolTra (義遊). The topic of it is Fueling Your Brand Beyond Borders. VolTra is a non-governmental organization(NGO) located in Hong Kong. We have shared the key tips for being a slasher overseas with more than 70 members of VolTra coming from different backgrounds and age groups on the Zoom platform, we hoped they may get used to the work of an influencer/KOL when they have a chance in the future! Here is the summary of last Friday's talk.

Slasher

First and foremost, how to be a slasher overseas? In this era, many of us planned to stay overseas to broaden our horizons. For example, going for work, study or even migration. In some free time, we will try to share our daily life with the people around us on social media. This can also be a job, which is called a slasher. Indeed, there are 10 major Instagram categories, including Lifestyle, Beauty, Music, Photography, Family, Humor & Fun & Happiness, Shows, Modelling, Cinema & Actors/ Actresses, Fitness & Gym. Until 2022, there are 13.8% of IG accounts under the lifestyle category. It shows that lifestyle has been the talk of the town on the Instagram platform.

What is your niche?

There are a variety of ways to let your profile more easily to be discovered. First, niche. You need to first define ‘What is your niche?’, like what kinds of categories you will try to categorise yourself and try to think what are your strengths and weaknesses. Second, hashtags and keywords. They are both important to let more people discover your social media account. If you are living in the United Kingdom, you may create a hashtag like #香港人在英國, this will increase the insights of your social media account. Third, emojis. Emojis are utmost important in our daily life, for example like we will send one as expressing our feelings at the moment. You may simply add the flags of your country or city in the description of your social media account to represent you are one of them. Last but not least, contact method. Leaving a contact method like email or phone may enhance the collaboration chances with companies, emails are always preferred.

Who is your Target Audience?

The next question you have to ask yourself is ‘Who is your target audience?’ Take Instagram as an example. According to the chart, Instagram is the top among all social media until 2021.

The users aged 25-34 years old are the most frequent users of Instagram until 2022. This shows that the media uploaded on Instagram will mainly attract adults.

According to APP APE, for Tiktok The most popular age group of users is 10-19 years old until April, 2022. It shows that Tiktok will attract teenagers and youngsters.

Micro-influences vs celebrities

How to gain repetitions for the micro-influencers? There are micro-influencers and celebrities. To gain repetitions for the micro-influencers, we may rely on these kinds of conditions. Including engagement rate, historical data, authenticity rate, your personality and the ratio.

Take engagement rate as an example, it is the insights on your social media, for example, the number of views, forward or saves. This will reflect the popularity of your social media account.

How to be an influencer?

Other than becoming an influencer on social media, you may apply for a freelance copywriter or be a performer by joining Fiverr or Backstage Casting. These two platforms may help people who desired to be a freelancer or performers to broaden their horizons.

As our employees come from different countries, the time zone keeps our company active! Besides, we will write down what we have done on that working day in order to let other employees follow up!

Q2: Do I have to buy advanced types of equipment before entering the KOL industry?

No! Your phone is already a good tool for you to start your KOL/influencer industry, you may enhance the quality of your videos by adding effects and titles! Your aesthetic is the utmost important equipment!

Q3: Any more tips to be a successful influencer?

First and foremost, don't be shy in front of the camera, try to think about why the audience will spend time on you and support you.

Next, as mentioned on the third page, it's good to use hashtags, but avoid using too many hashtags, keep it simple for the posts on your social media.

Moreover, according to the Lever Arm Principle, try to seek more help from peers! Try to ask more questions from your peers, for example, you may ask for more advances from famous YouTubers when you want to become a YouTuber. It is important to ask questions during your learning stages.

Last but not least, be self-disciplined and have a serious attitude! Keep yourself professional at all times.
