Immersive Technologies To Support WFH Employees in Asia
Even when the pandemic wanes, the percentage of employees working remotely may continue to grow. 451 Research conducted research globally and showed that 80% of organizations surveyed have implemented or expanded universal work-from-home (WFH) policies, and 67% of them planned to keep at least a few remote work policies in place long term or permanently. However, employees working remotely may find their organizations’ administrative and technical support capabilities unsatisfactory. Therefore, some Asian enterprises retool their internal processes and explore a growing range of immersive technology that can deliver high-quality support to remote and mobile worksites.
Chinese AR glasses startup Nreal recently collaborated with DingTalk, an intelligent working platform in China, and released the product Nreal AR Glasses Suit Pro. Through the glasses, users can enter a 3D virtual working environment combined with reality anytime and anywhere for remote communication and collaboration, such as desktop sharing, video and picture file explanation, and communication with colleagues.
Meanwhile, in February 2020, a Japanese VR company Synamon updated their VR innovation tower NEUTRANS, improving the efficiency of work acquisition. The service is used in various scenes such as meetings, training, event, exhibition, and showroom. It is a VR business facility that enables different business activities to be held in a virtual space by utilizing VR technology. It also creates a sense of unity for staff even if they are working remotely, and the feeling of having an actual meeting.
It is noticeable that the pandemic has been a wake-up call for a lot of work practices. VR and AR could be the solution to facilitate novel ways of helping team members to get together while socially distanced and improve work efficiency. However, this is still a small market right now, and it is likely to take time for any meaningful uptick in use. These immersive technologies need to be more mature and generally accepted in order to lower the cost to integrate them into a business environment.
